Fort McCoy Army Base

The Fort McCoy Army Base is located in the state of Wisconsin and is a U.S. Army installation. The base was established in 1909 and was originally called the Camp McCoy Training Center. The Fort McCoy Army Base is the largest military installation in Wisconsin and is home to the Army’s 85th Training Division. The base is also home to the Army’s Regional Training Institute and the Army’s Chemical School.

In addition, Operation Cold Steel is a major initiative geared toward improving the Army Reserves gunnery training. During the winter months, Fort McCoy runs it’s Cold Weather Operations Course allowing soldiers from various branches of the armed forces to operate different types of military equipment in harsh, cold weather conditions. In addition to being a major training facility, Fort McCoy was utilized as a mobilization station during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, deploying over 9,000 soldiers during the Persian Gulf War.
