Mountain Home Air Force Base
Mountain Home Air Force Base is the largest military base in Idaho, it is home to the 366th Fighter Wing, which operates the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft. The base is located in the city of Mountain Home, about 40 miles southeast of Boise. The base is responsible for providing air-to-ground and air-to-air combat training for the United States Air Force.
Mountain Home Air Force Base is the only true military base in Idaho, Mountain Home AFB. The population of the base rounds out to approximately 4,800 military and civilians plus over 5,000 family members. The 366th hold reign over 50 F-15E and a dozen F-15SG aircrafts. The wing is supported by three fighter squadrons – the 389th, 391st and the 428th. The 266th Range Squadron of the Air National Guard maintains emitter sites throughout the more than 7,000 square miles of training range in use.
MTA Gowen Field Boise
Gowen Field Army National Guard Base, is located in Boise, Idaho, and is home to the Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team, which includes armored reconnaissance, field artillery, and support units. The base also houses a variety of other units, including the 124th Fighter Wing of the Idaho Air National Guard, which operates the A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft.
This Air National Guard Base was established in 1926 as a training site for military pilots. Today the 124th Fighter Wing worked steadily for over 60 years to train their recruits to be ready for immediate tasking whenever called upon. The 124th Air Support Operations Squadron, also out of Gowen Field, work in support of the Tactical Air control Party and Air Support Operation missions. These units and others located here also stand ready to engage at the call of the Governor of Idaho to assist in emergencies, natural disasters and law enforcement to protect public safety of the state.
Orchard Range Training Site Boise
Orchard Combat Training Center is a training site located near the city of Boise and is used by the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force for various training exercises, including live-fire training, maneuver training and Air-to-Ground bombing.
Orchard Range is a popular site for training Brigade Combat Teams due to the change of seasons and the terrain. Located just south of MTA Gowen Field, Orchard Range Training Site is run by both the Air National Guard and the Army. The site takes up approximately 136,000 acres and houses an artillery and tank firing range, a maneuver training site and multiple other shooting ranges and training fields. The Idaho Army National Guard uses this site for a multitude of training purposes.
TS Edgemeade Mountain Home
Located in southern Idaho east of Mountain Home, this is an Army National Guard base. Facilities include 28 acres of operational area, 121 acres of maneuver area and multiple storage and vehicle maintenance areas as well as an armory. While the ANG has nine units located in various parts of the state, there is only one unit that is stationed here.
