The United States military has a vast network of bases and facilities around the world, ranging in size and function. Some of the largest US military bases, in terms of personnel, acreage, and budget, include the following.

The United States military is one of the most powerful and well-equipped in the world, and its bases are a testament to that fact. From sprawling complexes in the middle of bustling cities to remote outposts in the middle of nowhere, these bases are home to thousands of service members, as well as their families and support staff.

One of the largest military bases in the United States is Fort Hood, located in Killeen, Texas. This base, also known as “The Great Place,” is the largest active duty armored post in the US Army. With an area of about 340 square miles, Fort Hood is home to over 45,000 active duty personnel and around 8,000 civilian employees. The base is home to the 1st Cavalry Division, the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, the 13th Sustainment Command, the 89th Military Police Brigade, and the 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade among other units.

Another large military base in the United States is Naval Station Norfolk, located in Norfolk, Virginia. This base is the largest naval base in the world, covering an area of over 6,000 acres and housing over 80 tenant commands. It is home to the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet, including aircraft carriers, submarines, and destroyers. In addition, it is also the homeport for more than 60 naval ships, as well as the headquarters for the United States Second Fleet. The base is home to over 60,000 active duty personnel, as well as thousands of civilian employees and family members.

Yet another large military base in the United States is the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, located in California. This base, which covers an area of about 125,000 acres, is the largest amphibious training facility in the United States, and is home to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, the 1st Marine Division, the 1st Marine Logistics Group, and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, among other units. The base is home to over 42,000 active duty personnel, as well as thousands of civilian employees and family members.

Additionally, the largest Air Force base in the United States is Lackland Air Force Base, located in San Antonio, Texas. This base is also known as “Gateway to the Air Force,” and is home to the Air Force’s basic military training program, as well as the 37th Training Wing and the 59th Medical Wing. The base is home to over 35,000 active duty personnel and thousands of civilian employees.

Finally, one of the largest military bases in the United States is the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) located in Fort Eustis, Virginia. This base is responsible for overseeing the training and development of the United States Army, and is home to the Army’s Command and General Staff College, as well as several other training and educational institutions. The base is home to over 20,000 active duty personnel, as well as thousands of civilian employees and family members.

These are just a few examples of the many large military bases located throughout the United States. Whether they are training new recruits, maintaining and repairing equipment, or serving as a home base for active duty service members, these bases play a vital role in the country’s national defense. They are also important economic drivers for their local communities, providing jobs and other economic opportunities for people living nearby.

Lackland Air Force Base is NOT the largest Air Force Base in the United States. Eglin Air Force Base, in Northwest Florida, has the distinction of being the largest Air Force Base in the world. Joint Base San Antonio (Lackland, Randolph, Sam Houston), especially being three bases combined, certainly has a larger population. When you state that one place is bigger than another, you should specify whether it is by area or by population. Some people don’t read the whole question, or the whole article, and may end up taking the information out of context.
